Bring Google’s Fiber Project to Topeka Kansas
To Google, from Think Big Topeka, with many thanks:
Everyone who’s volunteered their time, talent, and energy into this project, to help better this city is grateful for the friendly recognition that you have given us.
Too often this city is overlooked, ignored and derided – except by those of us that love living here – and you, Google, helped us show the world the greatness of this land and the people who call it their home.
To us, Topeka is more than a place to dig good potatoes and Kansas is more than the place where Dorothy’s from – so the spotlight that showed us to the world on April 1st, 2010 has given us the bright hope and inspiration that we can use to better see our way forward.
You see, the pride that we have in our city and the respect for our fellow citizens runs deep and wide, in whatever we do, because we know that before us, there have been many people who have strived for the best, for everyone. From the truth that all men are created equal, to the creation of great railways, and religious freedom, Topeka has been there.
We are just the continuation of that line.
No matter the outcome of your experiment to connect us with “fiber,” we will continue working in the great tradition that began when Kansas was settled by the pioneering people who saw that their world was unjust and set forth to change it.
We encourage everyone who is interested in participating to join us on Facebook by searching for the “Think Big Topeka” fan page
Sincerely,
Think Big Topeka
Imagine Topeka as a technology hot spot. A place where citizens, schools and businesses have unparalleled access to an internet connection so powerful they’re able to make daily life more efficient, just by residing here. Where, instead of waiting minutes or hours for a file to download or a video to load, it would occur in seconds, allowing technology to take us places we’ve never even imagined before. With Google’s Fiber Experiment, this is all completely possible.
Currently, Google is looking for communities to test ultra-high speed broadband networks across the country. The network would deliver Internet speeds more than 100 times faster than what most Americans have access to today, over 1 gigabit per second, fiber-to-the-home/business connections.
As you can imagine, it would present fantastic opportunities to a community like Topeka! It could:
* Attract businesses to our community
* Improve the quality of life for our citizens
* Improve our schools, health care system and government agencies
This type of technology has the power to put Topeka on the global map!
