Grassroot Google Efforts Going Strong in Topeka

Grassroots efforts are amazing. When people rally around a cause, great things can happen and that is what is going on in Topeka, Kansas.

Last week Google announced the Google Fiber Experiment. Currently, Google is looking for communities to test ultra-high speed broadband networks across the country. The network would deliver Internet speeds more than 100 times faster than what most Americans have access to today, over 1 gigabit per second, fiber-to-the-home/business connections.

Immediately people started talking and getting involved in rallying the troops. Everyone involved can imagine the possibilities. We can imagine having the fastest internet around and being able to attracting high tech jobs and businesses to our community. We can imagine improving the quality of life of our community by quicker more powerful access. We can imagine schools, hospitals, and government, being able to do great things with a faster bandwidth. The most exciting thing for many of us are the possibilities that we haven’t even dreamed up yet.

The efforts are not being lead by a single person or an organization the efforts are being conducted by anyone that wants to get involved, and soon as someone has an idea – they pursue it and get it done.

So Vote for Google to bring their Fiber Experiment toTopeka. Google will take in nominations till November 26th. and it is Topeka’s goal to keep the momentum going till the very last minute and it only takes a minute or two to fill out the nomination form.

Anyone can become involved, create a video, write a poem, draw a picture, tell a friend, post a message on your Facebook page, text a friend. tell an organization you are involved with about what is going on … just get involved.

Get people to vote for Topeka, Kansas and keep these grassroots efforts moving forward. Plus let Thing Big Topeka.com know what you’ve been up to and they will share your efforts with the rest of the web.

Lots of things have happened in just a short time. Meetings have been held, a Facebook page was setup and over 2000+ people have joined the fan page. A website has been constructed to get the message out called Think Big Topeka. Individuals are using their contacts to setup meetings to talk to government, schools, the chamber and various other organizations and businesses to get the message out.

And… guess what, this is not the only thing going on in Topeka, there are a lot of great things happening in Topeka. HeartlandVisioning, First Fridays, new dining events, everyday efforts by various organizations. Topeka is a great place to live, work and play!
