Think BIG Topeka Thursday Event’s I Took Part In

Here is a great blog post by: jcheray

Yesterday was a busy day for me as I woke up and hit the ground running. After dropping my son off to school I made it downtown to sit in on the county commissioners meeting where Alissa Shelley, director of social media for Jones Huyett Partners petitioned the commission to pass a resolution of support for bringing Google to Topeka. Jim Ogle of WIBW was in attendance as well as John Ary and Jared Starkey. Overall the idea is to get a more organized approach to garnering support from local government officials for this effort. Google wants to move into a community whose leaders will offer little resistance to their initiative.

I came home made a couple of phone calls on behalf of this initiative-one being to TARC and also emailed Corey Fields of First Baptist Church in hopes of getting the folks I know on an organizational level in on this process.

After picking up my son from school it was down to the Ramada Inn to attend a flash MOB event.

Folks from Think BIG Topeka were present as well as my friends from church Anita Wolgast who serves on the Quality of Life committee and her husband Larry Wolgast who is a city council representative. Both are active members of our church. For some reason all I could get a pic of is Anita.

The flash MOB event was held in conjunction with the Heartland Visioning community meeting held at the Ramada Inn. Jim Parrish owner of the Ramada Inn initiated the MOB by holding up his Think BIG Topeka T-Shirt. For one minute everyone who showed up and got a shirt stood up and unveiled the BIG secret. It was a moment I won’t forget for as long as I live.

We are trying hard here in the capital city of Topeka Kansas to get the Google Fiber project. We have accomplished so much in just the space of a week. It is unbelievable yet well conceivable that we CAN DO this as we have banded together as a community to bring this to reality.

In the morning I am attending the planning meeting at The Classic Bean and I will be attending the Tape a Testimonial Event at Washburn’s Mabee Library Monday. I plan to blog about any and all things that I am able to take part in and also even some of those that I can’t The important thing is Wildheart’s Web 2.0 is a supporter of this initiative 100% .
